Joseph Bammel Joseph Bammel came from Munich, Germany about 1845 when he was fourteen years old. He came over with a brother and a sister. Two brothers and a sister remained in Germany. His father was a weaver. The original family name could have been Bimmel or Bemmel, but "Bammel" was registered in America. He first worked as a milk distributor in New York State on a dairy farm for about a year. He then became interested in fruit farms in New York and worked on them for about two and a half years. He then went to farm lands back of Marysville, St. Clair and Marine City, MI. and there he helped to clear off property for farms. He saved his money and purchased land below Marine City which he cleared and then sold and invested in farm land about two miles back of Marine City on both sides of Chartier Road (sometimes called "Bammel Road"). Here he built a log cabin on one side and later put up a two-story brick house on the other which may be still standing. He also became a representative for the International Harvester Company and sold their machinery (farm implements) to the countryside. He married Margaret Myers. Joseph Bammel was born on 21 June 1832. He was the son of John Bammel. Joseph Bammel died on 20 December 1914 at age 82. |
