Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 eggs
2 cups flour
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar (heaping)
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp cinnamon (can be as much as 1 tsp)
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder (heaping)
nuts and raisins to taste
Caramel Frosting
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
¼ cup Crisco
½ tsp salt
Cake:
Combine sugar with egg and milk. Add dry ingredients and mix together with sugar etc. Bake at 350° for about 35 minutes. Check with toothpick to make sure it is finished.
Frosting:
Bring to a rolling boil and boil 1 to 1-1/2 minutes while stirring. If too thick add a little cream. This frosting was actually an addition from Vivian Craves.
